Updike’s Rose is a unique early/folk music ensemble comprised of RI based musicians. Originally formed of recorder students from Metcalf Elementary School and private guitar students of director Joe Smith The Rose soon found audiences beyond the school. Over it’s 15 year history The Rose has performed at various venues across RI and parts of Massachusetts including King Richard’s Faire, Hammond Castle, weddings, church services, and coffee shops.In its early days the Rose performed strictly Early, Renaissance, and Medieval music but has since expanded its repertoire to include modern arrangements covering works from Leonard Cohen, Jethro Tull, The Decemberists, and more.
